PHNOM PENH - In a dazzling display of artistic prowess, the dancers of the Princess Buppha Devi Dance School have brought forth their latest creation, a breathtaking amalgamation of classical dance and traditional Bokator fight techniques. Titled "The Coronation of King Jayavarman VII," this mesmerizing show promises to transport audiences back in time to the heart of Khmer history and culture.

The narrative unfolds as Prince Jayavarman VII and Princess Indra Devi receive alarming news—their kingdom is under siege by the formidable army of the Champa king. Swift to defend their land, the royal couple rallies their armies, facing the enemy head-on. Emerging victorious from the intense battle, they return to the majestic capital of Angkor. The air is filled with the jubilant cheers of the people as festivities are organized to commemorate their coronation as the revered King and Queen of the Khmer people.

The show will feature subtitles in both French and English, ensuring that the rich narrative is accessible to a diverse audience. Having witnessed this spectacular show, I can attest to the sheer joy and entertainment it brings. The artistic expression of traditional Khmer dancing, notably the enchanting Apsara dancing, weaves a beautiful story that captivates the audience from start to finish.

Behind the scenes, the brilliance of the performance is guided by Tesso Sisowath, the director of the Princess Buppha Devi Dance School. Formerly the assistant to HRH Princess Norodom Buppha Devi, Tesso Sisowath now leads the academy with a wealth of experience and dedication to preserving the cultural heritage of Cambodia through dance.

"The Coronation of King Jayavarman VII" not only showcases the talents of the dancers but also pays homage to Cambodia's rich history. Under the skilled direction of Tesso Sisowath, this production is set to be a highlight, adding another chapter to the legacy of the Princess Buppha Devi Dance School.
